Skyscraper puzzle FAQ
A skyscraper puzzle (also called towers) is a Latin-square logic puzzle, not a daily format by itself. You place building heights so each row and column uses every height once. Numbers on the edges tell you how many rooftops are visible from that side — taller buildings hide shorter ones behind them. Daily Skyline is a free 5×5 iOS daily of that classic.
Yes. A sample Easy 5×5 is at https://dailyskyline.muratoncu.com/play. It is a static tutorial board, not today’s shared daily, and nothing is saved. The daily puzzle, streak, freeze, and Skyline Points are in the iOS app.
No. You can play right away. Progress stays on your device. Game Center is optional if you want leaderboards and achievements.
Yes. Each calendar day produces one deterministic board, the same skyline for every player.
Each number tells you how many buildings you can see looking into that row or column. Taller buildings hide shorter ones behind them.
Skyline Points are a local skill rating that starts at 1000. Harder, faster, cleaner daily solves raise it; slower or messier solves lower it. The Top % on Stats compares your current rating to other installs anonymously. It is not the same as “faster than X% today” on Home, which is only about today's solve times.
Streak Freeze can cover a single missed day. You earn a freeze every 7 streak days, and you can hold up to two. The app spends one automatically the next time you open it after a gap. If you had no freeze left, the run resets.
If reminders are on, you can get a daily puzzle reminder around the hour you usually play. A second, later “last call” fires only when today's puzzle is still unsolved, your streak is alive, and you have no freeze left. Both are local notifications on the device. We do not send them from a server.
Turn them off in Daily Skyline Settings, or in iOS Settings → Notifications → Daily Skyline. That covers both the daily reminder and the last-call streak reminder.
Progress, streak, freezes, and Skyline Points live on the device. Removing the app or clearing its data resets them. Skyline Points ranking also mints a new anonymous install token after a reinstall, so you start a fresh rating in the pool. Device backups sometimes restore local data.
Yes. Open the archive to replay recent past puzzles if you missed a day. Archive clears do not keep the public “players solved today” counter growing.
Add it from the iOS home screen: touch and hold an empty area, tap Edit, then Add Widget, and choose Daily Skyline. It shows your streak and a mini skyline. It does not need an account.
In Settings, Reduce Motion calms transitions and juice. The puzzle rules stay the same. You can also use iOS Reduce Motion; the app respects a quieter preference.
